Chitranna/Lemon Rice-Traditional Taste

Till I married and came back Bangalore i never knew the other way of cooking chitranna. I loved the way they cooked chitranna in Bangalore rather than in my native.Its really long time i didnt prepare this so here is the dish..


Chitranna/Lemon Rice

Preparation Time:15min
Cooking Time: 1o min
Serves :2-4


Ingredients


2 cups cooked rice
salt per taste

For the Masala

4 red chillies(you can increase if u want it spicy)
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 cup coconut grated
lemon juice of (2 lemons)

For Tampering

4 tsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1tsp Urad dal
2 tsp chana dal
4 tbsp peanuts/groundnuts
3 strands curry leaves

Method

Cook the rice and keep it aside. Take all the masala ingredients except the lemon juice in a blender and make it a fine paste without adding water to it.

Put the masala powder in a big bowl and to it add the lemon juice and mix properly and let it sit for 10 minutes. After that add the rice and mix properly till the masala is blended with rice and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Meanwhile prepare the kadai for tampering putting all the ingredients expect the curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds crackle add curry leaves and fry for a minute then add the masala mixed rice to it and heat till the masala rice becomes warm.

Serve hot with coffee or tea.

i have only seen YELLOW lemon rice. this is a different nicer colour :)
